Sahyadri Hospitals gives a new life to 3-year-old Nigerian kid

Sahyadri Hospitals (1)Sahyadri Hospitals recently performed a successful brain surgery on a three-year-old baby – Somtochukwu Anayo, suffering from brain cancer. The surgery took place on 27th April 2017 and was led by the chairman of Sahyadri Hospitals and the leading surgeon of India, Dr. Charudutt Apte and his team.

Somtochukwu is a Nigerian national was admitted to Sahyadri Hospital on 26th April, 2017 and was facing Polycystic Asteocytoma as his left half of the cerebellum had a solid cystic lesion. Somtochukwu’s headaches worsened with each passing day which was accompanied by occasional vomiting, weakness and gait instability, known as Ataxia. After multiple tests and brain scans, a surgery was the only option. Through contacts, the family was introduced to Sahyadri Hospitals’ neurosurgery department. Learning about the case, Dr. Charudutt Apte decided to personally look into it.

Ifeoma Anayo, Somtochukwu’s mother, was overwhelmed with happiness looking at her son’s recovery. She said, “I am very happy. This is the best day of my life. I never thought I can see my baby turning four year old without the problem. This miracle was possible because of Dr. Charudutt Apte and his team who has given new life not only to my baby but also to our entire family. We don’t have enough words to thank team Sahyadri.”

Dr. Charudutt Apte, Neurosurgeon and Chairman of Sahyadri Hospitals said, “We at Sahyadri performed such surgeries before but this boy was very special. We are very happy looking at Somtochukwu’s progress post-surgery. I am also proud and thankful to my team of doctors who have always supported me during such cases.”

Sahyadri Hospitals Nagar Road where Somtochukwu was operated and is now recovering also celebrated his fourth birthday on 2nd May 2017.
