Rainbow has Revolutionised Children Healthcare Concept in more ways than one
1. Rainbow Children’s Hospital & BirthRight By Rainbow launched its first hospital in the city of Bengaluru in 2015.
Rainbow Group’s successful journey began on 14th November 1999, on Children’s Day. It established the first tertiary care, children’s hospital in South India with specialised healthcare services for infants, children and adolescence.
Rainbow also focused on building paediatric super specialities like paediatric neurology, gastroenterology, nephrology, endocrinology, pulmonology and advanced surgical centre to deal with neonatal and paediatric surgeries. Rainbow Hospitals aim to provide high standards of care for the mother, foetus, new-born and children so that none of them is deprived of a tertiary care facility.
Dr Ramesh Kancharla, chairman and managing director, Rainbow Group of Hospitals, states that teamwork is the very soul of entity at the Rainbow Group. Dr Ramesh’s vision was to bring world-class multi specialty children’s care along with advanced intensive services to the country. He has always believed that the advanced healthcare model for children is the need of the hour.
At Rainbow, the greatest measure of success is in the number of smiling faces, love and appreciation from treated children and their parents and the tremendous support from the medical community.
India does not have children specialty hospitals like in the developed world. Globally there are dedicated children hospitals with capacity of up to 800 beds. India is mainly driven by primary and secondary healthcare. Tertiary care specialties for children are not built mainly because it’s viewed as financially unviable.
There is also lack of expertise in the paediatric specialty. The high cost of infrastructure is another deterrent. Unlike adult hospitals, children’s hospital require very skilled professionals on site 24×7 as 80% of cases in a children hospital are emergencies compared to 20% in adult hospitals.”
At Rainbow, the greatest measure of success is in the number of smiling faces, love and appreciation from treated children and their parents.
Rainbow has revolutionised children healthcare concept in many ways, including dispelling the myth of viability of a children’s hospital and the necessity of exclusive multi-specialty children’s hospital.
Rainbow is medically respected for their teamwork, results and ability to train the next generation specialists. The growth of Rainbow in the last 17 years in the outpatients with 2,50,000 patients per year and admissions of 25,000 per year, of which 40% have been admitted in the ICU, reflects the need and necessity for the group to build more specialty children’s hospitals. Rainbow has several benchmarks including saving smallest of small and sickest of sick children, results very close to developed countries and bringing innovative technologies in the field of paediatric surgery and performing 80% of surgeries laparoscopically.
“With this background, Rainbow firmly believes in the need for multi-specialty children’s hospital in every city in this country with a population 20 lakh,” he added. The group has six units in Hyderabad – Banjara Hills, Vikrampuri, Madhapur, Kondapur, Hydernagar and LB Nagar. Also the group has a 1,150 bed hospital in Vijayawada and a clinic in Governer pet.
Rainbow Children’s Hospital & BirthRight By Rainbow launched its first hospital in the city of Bengaluru in 2015 at Marathahalli. The group launched its second unit in Banerghatta Road (100 beds) in 2016. Both the hospitals are well-planned and seamlessly designed with separate wings for children and expecting mothers.
These tertiary care children hospitals house advanced ICU services for newly born and children, dedicating almost 35% of the beds. These services would cater for the city of Bengaluru and also offer transport services up to 200 km radius of Bengaluru. The units have established all the sub specialties under one roof, including neurology, nephrology, gastroenterology, hematology, oncology, endocrinology and advanced paediatric surgery.
